A study on techniques for the automatic generation of membership functions for pattern recognition

چکیده

The task of automatically generating suitable membership functions from data is fundamental for the appropriate performance of fuzzy systems that use a fuzzy rule base. In this paper we provide an overview of some methods found in the literature, which are based on heuristics, hybrid methods, fuzzy clustering algorithms, neural networks, genetic algorithms, and the entropy and fuzzy Kappa indexes. We also present a study on the suitability of these methods to different application domains. Resumo. A tarefa de gerar automaticamente funções de pertinência fuzzy a partir de dados é fundamental para um desempenho adequado de sistemas fuzzy que usam uma base de regras fuzzy. Neste trabalho apresentamos uma revisão de alguns métodos encontrados na literatura, baseados em heurı́sticas, métodos hı́bridos, algoritmos de agrupamento fuzzy, redes neurais artificiais e ı́ndices, como entropia e fuzzy Kappa. Também apresentamos um estudo sobre a adequação desses métodos a diferentes domı́nios de aplicação.
